Checklist for structuring enabling team support cycles.

  1. Review intake request; clarify desired capability, current blockers, and success criteria.
  2. Assign enabling team lead, engagement duration, and availability of product team champions.
  3. Run discovery session to capture current process, tooling, and constraints; document baseline metrics.
  4. Co-create engagement plan including training sessions, pairing cadence, and artifacts to deliver.
  5. Kick off engagement with clear schedule, communication channels, and expectations for both sides.
  6. Deliver enablement activities; maintain shared log of progress, decisions, and emerging platform gaps.
  7. Hold midpoint check-in to inspect metrics, adjust scope, or escalate blockers.
  8. Run exit review capturing outcomes, remaining risks, and ownership handoff. Store assets in developer portal.
  9. Send satisfaction survey to partner team and summarize learnings for leadership.

Prerequisites

  • Enabling team bandwidth and access to relevant environments/tooling.
  • Leadership agreement on prioritization and engagement time-boxing.

Pitfalls

  • Staying embedded indefinitely without transferring ownership.
  • Becoming a ticket queue that masks deeper platform investment needs.
